The 2024 vintage will be remembered for its climatic contrasts, which shaped wines of great character.
A particularly rainy winter replenished precious water reserves. These conditions provided the vines, from flowering onwards, with an ideal environment for growth.
Spring and early summer were marked by a nearly four-month-long drought. Thanks to our proximity to the sea and the relative humidity it brings, the vines nonetheless experienced no water stress. Summer, true to its usual warmth, was tempered by the easterly and westerly winds sweeping across Cap Bénat. These breezes cooled the nights and mornings, promoting the respiration of the vines and preserving the health of leaves and fruit, with no signs of downy mildew.
A storm in mid-August slightly delayed the harvest but above all gave the vineyard a new boost, imparting extra freshness and balance to the grapes.
The whites are distinguished by smaller, concentrated berries with marked minerality, while retaining remarkable freshness and a lively, zesty acidity.
The reds, meanwhile, benefited from this providential rainfall, which softened the skins and encouraged a subtle balance between juice, skins, and seeds. Early-achieved phenolic ripeness has yielded fine, elegant tannins, promising wines of great harmony.
The 2023 vintage will remain a singular year in Provence. While most of the region’s vineyards endured a dry summer, our estate benefited from regular rains carried in from the sea, beginning in winter and continuing throughout the season. These showers, combined with our maritime winds that quickly dry the soils and allow the vines to breathe, fostered a harmonious vegetative cycle. They also naturally reduced the risks of humidity-related diseases.
Summer itself was particularly hot. Days were scorching and nights offered little respite, with sea temperatures along our Mediterranean shoreline reaching 30–31°C — a rare phenomenon that underscores the climatic singularity of this vintage. Despite the heat, the vines drew on the rains and the stored energy to continue their development in a balanced manner.
Our work in biodynamics once again played a vital role. By strengthening the exchanges between soil, plant, and environment, it enabled the vines to better integrate seasonal rainfall and transform it into a true reserve of energy. The preparations, by stimulating soil vitality and responsiveness, encouraged steady growth without excess and ensured a gradual, even ripening of the grapes, even during the hottest spells.
The harvest, slightly early, yielded juicy, perfectly ripe berries. In the cellar, we chose a delicate approach, favoring longer infusions and gentle extraction, in order to preserve freshness, finesse, and the natural balance of the fruit.
The 2022 vintage will be remembered as one of the driest in recent years. For nearly eighteen months, rainfall was scarce, making drought management especially challenging. From the beginning of the year, temperatures remained within seasonal norms, with cool mornings and sunny days. But summer brought episodes of intense heat that worsened the water deficit, putting the vines to the test.
In such conditions, the vines could have suffered severe water stress. Yet they showed a remarkable capacity to adapt. This resilience stems from years of biodynamic work aimed at reinforcing the plant’s natural systems. In addition, cover crops played a decisive role: by retaining the moisture from morning dew — encouraged by our immediate proximity to the Mediterranean — they helped maintain a precious balance in the soil and within the vines.
Throughout the season, the vines managed their resources with precision: first developing foliage, then ensuring successful flowering, and finally concentrating their efforts on ripening the clusters. This controlled cycle prevented imbalances despite a particularly demanding context.
Yields were low, but this constraint gave rise to berries of great concentration. The wines from this vintage stand out for their remarkable aromatic intensity, freshness preserved by bright acidity, and perfectly balanced sugar-acid ratios. Unlike some hot vintages, alcohol levels remain moderate, enhancing the finesse and elegance of the wines.
